00WriterSINTRODUCTION:  Writer’s write, that’s what we do. Find out why and how in this new Blog Hop for 2014:

* * * *

I’ve found the hardest part about writing a book and having it published, it not the writing and publishing, it’s the marketing. How can I find a fun way to get the word out about my book and my upcoming published works and help support my fellow writers?

Then my good friend and mentor, Beth Barany introduced the idea of a blog hop. As she describes it, “a sort of treasure hunt where you get to go from writer to writer,” reading about the things they treasure.

I want to give credit and applause where kudos are due to my friend, book coach and fantasy romance writer extrodinaire, Beth Barany. Her blog Writer’s Fun Zone is a fantastic place to discuss the topic of writing.  And her FREE magazine Author Entrepreneurship  is dedicated to helping authors build their businesses as well as strengthening their writing muscles.

In today’s post, we’re answering questions about our writing process. See what makes me tick as a writer:

1) What is Carol working on currently or just finished?

I just published my first Fight Card novel. You might ask yourself, why would a women write in a man’s genre? Well, you’ll have to read it to find out why I’m passionate about sports and romance. I do love to write historical pulp sports fiction and published my book last September. The paperback will be coming out on my birthday, February 14th.

To see if I’m any good at the genre, I’ll refer to two of my reviews and see what they had to say about my first book Fight Card Romance: Ladies Night:

“Jill Tunney, a pseudonym for Carol Malone pens a combination of nerve-racking tension, thrilling action, and an engaging love story that kept me up until the wee hours. Additionally, the characters are all very strong and exhibit character development throughout the book. Carol Malone has crafted delightful characters whose charm made the hours pass swiftly by.”

“Oh…and I’m sure you’ll be impressed with the accuracy of the lingo for the time and place. I felt like I’d been transported back in time.”

I just finished a 1940s baseball novella that takes place in the southern Texas. A struggling player from Boston faces the challenge of getting back on the horse as well as the tremendous difficulty of deciphering what the Texican’s are saying. I just submitted this story for a pulp fiction anthology to be published in the summer.

Right now I’m shifting gears to write on a contemporary “sweet” romance featuring a fireman working hard to become a paramedic. He must decide if he can give his trust and his heart to his once best friend and childhood sweetheart who broke said heart by marrying the bad boy of their high school.

2) How does Carol’s work differ from others of its genre?

I’ve read some of the other fireman novels out there, but his work gets lost in the sexually charged relationship between him and the heroine. I want to focus on what really happens in a fireman’s life, the dangers he faces and how he feels about saving lives. Woven through the novel is an emotional tension between him and the heroine instead of a sexual one. This is a novel where sex doesn’t drive the book forward.

3) Why does Carol write what she does?

I write because the mere act of writing fills a need in me that no other activity ever can. I love being able to create characters from the vivid images in my head. Some of these characters I made up while making the long drive between Southern California and Las Vegas. That’s a lot of desert to cover, so I’ve come up with a lot of characters and written a lot of manuscripts because of those stories circulating in my brain.

4) How does Carol’s writing process work?

When I worked full-time, I wrote consistently. Now that I’m home to write full-time, I struggle with the pull of useless, mind-numbing TV, until I watch something and say, “I could write something better than that.” Then I’m inspired to get on the stick again. I love the National Novel Writing Month that takes place every November. There’s nothing I like better than a throw-down challenge.

Now on to the next wonderful writers on this blog hop. Be sure to visit their sites and give them some love. Say hello, subscribe/follow/stalk, but get to know them and their books and find out why they write what they write. Their own “Writing Process” posts will be up soon where they will feature other writers:

00SarahHeggerWEBSITE: http://sarahhegger.com

Bio: Born British and raised in South Africa, Sarah Hegger suffers from an incurable case of wanderlust. Her match? A hot Canadian engineer, whose marriage proposal she accepted six short weeks after they first met. Together they’ve made homes in seven different cities across three different continents (and back again once or twice). If only it made her multilingual, but the best she can manage is idiosyncratic English, fluent Afrikaans, conversant Russian, pigeon Portuguese, even worse Zulu and enough French to get herself into trouble. Mimicking her globe trotting adventures, Sarah’s career path began as a gainfully employed actress, drifted into public relations, settled a moment in advertising, and eventually took root in the fertile soil of her first love, writing.

She also moonlights as a wife and mother. She currently lives in Draper, Utah, with her teenage daughters, two Golden Retrievers and aforementioned husband. Part footloose buccaneer, part quixotic observer of life, Sarah’s restless heart is most content when reading or writing books.

AUTHOR, ANDREA R. COOPER

__________________________________________________________________________

00AndreaRCooperWEBSITE: http://andrearcooperauthorblog.wordpress.com/

Bio: Andrea has always created characters and stories. But it wasn’t until she was in her late twenties that she started writing novels. What happened that ignited the writing flame in her fingers? Divorced, and disillusioned by love songs and stories. They exaggerate. She thought. Love and Romance are not like that in the real world. Then she met her husband and realized, yes love and romance are exactly like the songs and stories say. She is now a happy wife, and a mom to three kids (two boys and a girl).

Andrea writes paranormal and historical romance. When not writing or reading, one may find Andrea dancing in Zumba. She believes in the power of change and counting each moment as a blessing. But most importantly, she believes in love. Both of her novels are on a Valentine’s Day Sale at $1.99 Amazon/Kindle for the entire month of February? Including all 2012 & 2013 Crimson Romance ebook titles.

AUTHOR, BILLIE MAVERICK, a.k.a. JANET JENNINGS

_______________________________________________________________________

00JJJenningsaWEBSITE: http://www.billiemaverick.com

Bio:  When I was ten, I asked my mother for a typewriter.

I knew that it would probably be difficult for her to get because we were living on a fixed income. I knew not to get my hopes up about receiving this special request, but I kept envisioning having my very own typewriter; to create my stories at the pace that I was hearing and seeing them in my mind. So imagine my utter surprise when she presented to me a heavy, gray colored portable typewriter. God, it was antiquated,..but I loved it! That was the first time I started dreaming. Dreaming of being a fiction writer. After spending most of my adult life working for others, getting older and not having any real enjoyment out of my life, I finally caved in and started to pursue my dreams of being an entrepreneur and entertain the populace with my fiction.

    • Thanks for participating, Carol. This was fun. I advertised in the Yahoo groups for romance writers to participate and from the workshops I’ve participated in. Thanks again.

  1. Nice post Carol! Great to get to know more about your writing process. The blog hop is also a great idea. I was just reading about blog hops in How to Blog for Profit by Ruth Soukup. I will be placing a link to that book, when I finish reading i,t on our resource tabs at Immensely Social!
Please let us know how it goes and keep up the good work!

  2. I wish, how I wish, that even some competition would
enter the market and just devour their player base by about 30% (the bad 30%, you know
the type). Reading is a culture that is engrained in mainly the western culture.

For anyone who is a blogger already, you’ll know that there are many different types, from online diaries,
to fashion, to sports, to spreading awareness, whatever you can think of.

  3. you are truly a just right webmaster. The web
site loading pace is amazing. It seems that you are doing any unique trick.
In addition, The contents are masterwork. you have performed a magnificent job in this subject!
